Domestic Violence Act

THE PROTECTION OF WOMEN FROM DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ACT, 2005
Domestic Violence cover all type of harassment of women like sexual abuse, financial abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, dowry demand from the women or from her relatives, threat of abuse, taunt & comment etc.
Domestic violence Act protects women i.e. wife, female live-in partner, mother, sisters from violence committed by husband or male live-in partner or son, brother, father, uncle who live in a shared household with them.
Relief that women will get under this act are as follows:-
1. Right to reside in share Household.
2. Protection orders
3. Residence orders
4. Maintenance or monetary Relief
5. Custody order (Custody of Children)
6. Compensation orders
7. Interim and ex parte orders.
8. Penalty (including up to 1 year imprisonment or up to Rs.20,000/- fine) for breach of protection order by respondent.
Shelter, medical etc facilities are also available for women under this act.
